Richard (Dick) J. Lockwood, 84, of Angola, Ind., died at his home Oct. 16, 2020.
He was born Feb. 7, 1936, in Morenci, Mich., to Samuel and Luella (Spohr) Lockwood.
He married the love of his life, Joan Austin, on Aug. 10, 1957, in Angola, and they shared 62 happy years of marriage.
Dick attended school in Morenci, and worked 35 years at Dinner Bell Foods in Archbold, Ohio, until the plant closure. He was the proprietor of the Lake Seneca Store and Restaurant until the early 1990s and retired from his lawn mowing business in 2010. He was an NRA Endowment Life member and a loyal fan of University of Michigan and Detroit Lions football.
He is survived by sons Lynn (and Kelly Noragon) Lockwood and Richard J. (and Sue) Lockwood, II, and goddaughter Jeanette (and Frank) Hull; grandchildren Richard J. (and Courtney) Lockwood, III, Kristle Lockwood, and Travis (and Corilynne) Lockwood, Justice Mathern, Josh (and Leticia) Mathern, Jason (and Kristina) Mathern, Jonah Mathern and god-grandchildren Ashley (and Marty) Thorp and Heather (and Jacob) Swager; great-grandchildren Kaiden Zachary and Max Lockwood, Brody and Gavin Thorp, Kail, Azlyn and Riker Swager; brothers and sisters Wilma Huff, Samuel (and Carolyn) Lockwood, Karen (and Tom) Miller, Rusty (and Carolyn) Lockwood, Beverly (and Alvin) Weber; brother-in-law Dean (and Raquel) Austin; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Lance Lockwood; brothers Harold Lockwood, Ken Lockwood and Merle Lockwood; sisters Lucille Ferguson and Barb Hassenzahl.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Heartland Hospice of Ft. Wayne, Ind., or a charity of the donor’s choice.
