Norma J. Root, 87, of Morenci, Mich., died May 18, 2020, at Maple Ridge Assisted Living in Hudson, Mich.
She was born in Hudson on March 20, 1933, the daughter of Clarence and Mary Lucille (Blurton) Collar.
Norma was raised on the family farm just south of Hudson. She attended Hudson schools, playing clarinet in the high school band. A graduate of Hudson High School in 1952, she went on to work as a bookkeeper at M&S Manufacturing in Hudson and Gerity-Michigan Corporation in Adrian. On Oct. 18, 1955, she married Clare L. Root in Hudson, and he preceded her in death Oct. 21, 2019.
Norma was a homemaker and dedicated farm wife, supporting the farm operations, running for parts, taking lunches to the fields, and maintaining the Telfarm books. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, needlepoint, teaching knitting for Medina Pioneers 4-H Club, and card parties with the neighborhood Birthday Club. Norma was a volunteer at the township election board and a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Morenci. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, and looked forward to wintering in Florida in the Lakeland area.
Norma is survived by son Michael Root (and Mary Jo Mosiniak) of Morenci; daughter Pamela Root (and John Toth) of Allentown, Pa.; daughter-in-law Christine Root of Montpelier, Ohio; son-in-law Jan Brill of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren Chad (and Eve) Root of Hudson, Jason (and Jennifer) Root of Morenci, Miles, Joyce, and Jenny Brill of Raleigh; and great-grandchildren Dodge, Brantley, Dixon, Blake and Lillian.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a daughter, Patricia Ann Brill in 1999.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Alzheimer’s Foundation or to Morenci United Methodist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Eagle Marry Funeral Home, Morenci, MI.
