James W. Lucas, 89, of Waldron, Mich., died April 12, 2020, at Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility.
He was born June 15, 1930, in Stanley, Va., to William H. and Reva M. (Cubbage) Lucas. James proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. On Nov. 25, 1954, he married Lennis Barbara Gochenour in Luray, Va., and she preceded him in death on July 6, 2017, after 63 years of marriage.
James worked as a carpenter for more than 70 years and a farmer for more than 60 years. Throughout the years, he shared his carpentry skills with his family by helping them with their home projects. He loved what he did and was a hard worker.
James attended Betzer Community Church in Pittsford, Mich. He was a faithful man and liked to spend time reading his Bible. He also loved spending time with his family and especially at family gatherings.
James is survived by sons Larry (and Debbie) Lucas and Chester (and Angie) Lucas; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents and wife, James was preceded in death by a son, David; two sisters, Anna and Elna; and two brothers, Owen and Junior.
Services will be private. Interment will be in Waldron Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Eagle-Marry Funeral Home in Hudson.
