Joan C. Lockwood, 80, of Angola, Ind., died Jan. 19 at Aperion Care of Angola, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born May 1, 1939, in Hudson, Mich., to Winfield and Wanda (Zimmerman) Austin.
She married the love of her life, Richard J. Lockwood, on Aug. 10, 1957, in Angola and they shared 62 happy years of marriage. He survives.
Joan graduated Hudson High School and spent many years working as a Realtor and residential appraiser. She loved to paint and attend art shows, and enjoyed photography. She was also a past member of the Black Swamp Art Club.
In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by sons Lynn Lockwood (Kelly Noragon) and Richard J. (and Sue) Lockwood, II; goddaughter Jeanette (and Frank) Hull; grandchildren Richard J. (and Courtney) Lockwood, III, Kristle Lockwood, Travis (and Corilynne) Lockwood, Justice Mathern, Josh (and Leticia) Mathern, Jason (and Kristina) Mathern, Jonah Mathern; god-grandchildren Ashley (and Marty) Thorp and Heather (and Jacob) Swager; great-grandchildren Kaiden Zachary and Max Lockwood; a brother, Dean (and Raquel) Austin; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lance Lockwood in 1978; and a brother, Michael Austin.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation is planned from 10 a.m. until noon Wednesday, Jan. 22, with a memorial service immediately following at 1 p.m. at Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette, Ohio, with Richard Will officiating.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Heartland Hospice of Ft. Wayne or a charity of the donor’s choice.
