Madelyn V. Custer, 86 of Coldwater, Mich., died May 25, 2019, at her home under hospice care.
Madelyn was born Aug. 20, 1932, in Quincy, Mich., to Clarence and Dortha (Shaffer) Miner of Quincy. She married LaVon Campbell, and they later divorced. On Dec. 14, 1980, Madelyn married Melcher “Mel” Custer in Clinton, Mich.
Madelyn worked as a secretary for many years with Fauver Molding Company and Parker Rust Proof in Morenci before retiring and moving to Coldwater.
Madelyn attended Fairview Missionary Church in Angola, Ind., for many years. She enjoyed playing the organ, painting, and filling in adult coloring books. Madelyn also liked to go bowling and do yard work, especially mowing. She was a good cook and will be remembered for her compassionate and joyful personality. Her true joy in life was spending time with her family. Madelyn was loved and made an impact on the lives of many.
In addition to her husband, Madelyn is survived by her daughters Rebecca (and Stan) Shadbolt of Tipton, Mich., and Vickie Betz of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; her step-daughter Mary (and Rex) Orpurt of Fremont, Ind.; her grandchildren Scott Metcalf, Brandi Keller, Nick (and Shekinah) Betz, Marcea Betz, Christopher (and Samantha) Wentworth, Brienna Orpurt, and Brittany (and Thomas) Hilton; her great-grandchildren Jareth Keller, Lauren Keller, Zipporah Betz, Alex Hilton, Cason Castner and Ethan Wentworth.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Reva Clark.
A celebration of Madelyn’s life is planned at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at Fairview Missionary Church in Angola. A gathering of family and friends is scheduled at 3 p.m. prior to the celebration, at the church.
Arrangements were handled by Dutcher Funeral Home of Coldwater.
