Anna Mae Ely, 78, died May 7, 2019, at home in Morenci, Mich., surrounded by her family.
She was born in Dryfork, W. Va., on Jan. 25, 1941, to Charles and Goldie (Long) Knicley.
She married Larry Ely on May 22, 1975, in Lyons, Ohio. Anna Mae and her husband fostered at least 45 children in their home.
Anna Mae is survived by her husband; children, Wayne (and Laura) Canfield of Fayette, Ohio, Diana (and Mark) Maginn of Fayette, Cliff, Jr., (and Julia) Canfield of West Unity, Ohio, David (and Cindy) Canfield of Toledo, Ohio, and Daniel Ely of Morenci, Mich.; brothers, Wilbert, John (and Donna) and William Knicley; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Julie Casterline; a grandson, Chuck Canfield Meriweather; great-grandchildren, Zachariah Gehring and Gideon Turner; two sisters, Alice Lixey and Ellen Schoepflin; and a sister-in-law, Pat Knicley.
A celebration of her life is planned from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 14, at the Morenci American legion.
