Mansfield, Evelyn

Evelyn Mae Mansfield, 89, of Traverse City, Mich., and formerly of Morenci, Mich., died April 20, 2019, at Culver Meadows Senior Living in Traverse City.

Evelyn was born Aug. 6, 1929, in Morenci to Herbert and Irene (Goodyear) Porter. She was a 1947 graduate of Morenci High School. After graduation she married the love of her life, Herbert C. Mansfield, on Aug. 16, 1947, in Morenci. Together they raised a loving family on their crop and dairy farm in Lenawee County. Evelyn was involved in all aspects of life on the farm. She was particularly responsible for the accounting and bookkeeping. Her meticulous records kept the farm running smoothly. She also drove a bus for Morenci Area Schools for many years.

Her life was centered around her family and her faith. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Morenci, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Because of her love for music she played the piano and sang in choirs. She enjoyed managing her “Life My Answer” Successful Living Christian book sales.

Spending many winters in Leesburg, Fla., Evelyn became very involved in the Holiday Mission Church. She led the women’s Bible study group at the church and volunteered at Leesburg Regional Medical Center.

Evelyn loved to travel. She was a member of her family’s One Million Miles Driven Club. For more than 30 years, Evelyn and Herbert took their family on a two-week camping vacation to Traverse City State Park. Above all, spending time with her family was Evelyn’s greatest joy.
