Roy E. Hintz, 90, of rural Morenci, Mich., died Jan. 9, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Maumee, Ohio.
He was born April 11, 1928, in Tecumseh, Mich., to Archie and Grace (Adams) Hintz.
Roy graduated from the former high school in Metamora, Ohio, and worked as a farmer throughout his life. In 1950 he enlisted to serve his country as a member of the United States Army, and was a member of the Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1956. On April 6, 1952, in Metamora, he married the former Phyllis Double. They shared more than 62 years of wedded bliss before her death on June 30, 2014. Roy and Phyllis were longtime members of the Weston United Methodist Church.
Roy is survived by two sons, Keith (and Kalli) Hintz of Winameg, Ohio, and George (and Lisa) Hintz of Sand Creek, Mich.; three daughters, Marsha (and Michael) Boothe of Pahrump, Nev., Trudy Fernholz of Morenci, and Sally Hintz of Lyons, Ohio; a brother, Leslie (and Pamela) Hintz of Traverse City, Mich.; a sister, Opal (and Bill) Taylor of Wauseon, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to his parents and wife, Roy was preceded in death by two sisters, Caroline Patterson and Claudean Lockwood.
A memorial service is planned at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Weston United Methodist Church, with Pastor Dave McKinstry officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Lyons Cemetery at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21. Visitation is scheduled Saturday for an hour preceding the service.
Arrangements are being handled by Eagle Funeral Home in Morenci.
