Joel C. “Bob” Vasher, 98, of Adrian, Mich., died Nov. 22, 2018, at Lynwood Manor in Adrian.
He was born Nov. 17, 1920, in Trenton, Mich., to Clement J. and Jennette (Wells) Vasher. Bob attended high school in New Hudson and South Lyon. He served in the Pacific Theatre and Occupational Forces in Japan as a Military Policeman. He earned the Battle Star for the Philippines, the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.
On May 25, 1946, he married Helen Butcher in Hudson, Mich. He was employed by Tecumseh Products for 32 years and retired in 1980. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Lyons, Ohio.
Bob is survived by four sons, Michael (and Sandra) Vasher of Adrian, Lawrence (and Wendy) Vasher of Pinckney, Mich., Howard (and Cindy) Vasher of Willard, Mo., and Dean (and Darla) Vasher of Morenci; three daughters, Eileen (and Robert) Osentoski of Taylor, Mich., Judith (and Richard) Krok of Blissfield, Mich., and Dee Ann (and Les) Wolf of Clayton, Mich.; 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; a son, Joel Vasher; a granddaughter, Eva; a grandson, Josh; a great-great-granddaughter, Anjil; a brother, Harley; and a sister, Marie Bailey.
Visitation is planned from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian. The Funeral Liturgy will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Rite of Committal will follow in Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Lyons, Ohio, with military honors performed by the Michigan Army National Guard.
