Tomasita V. “Tommie” Keefer, 84, of Morenci, Mich., died March 1, 2018, at Hospice of Lenawee Home in Adrian.
She was born Feb. 22, 1934, in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of the late Ramiro and Marie (Garcia) Valdez.
Tommie grew up in Texas and was raised by her sister, Mary, following the death of their mother at a young age. She worked in various migrant camps across the country, and while in Lyons, Ohio, she met Arden Keefer, and they married in 1973.
A lover of people, Tomasita enjoyed being in the company of others, and she loved to socialize. She also enjoyed gardening and traveling, taking many trips to Mexico and the Smoky Mountains.
In addition to her husband, Arden, she is survived by a son, Gilbert Amaya, of Thailand; a brother, Raymond Valdez of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren, Gabby (and Barry) Stover of Morenci, Matt Amaya of Amarillo, Texas, Amanda (and Rob) Torres of Albuquerque, N.M., and Ashley Amaya of Inkster, Mich.; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, at the Eagle Funeral Home in Morenci. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
