John R. Pummell, 90, of La Center, Wash., died Aug. 14, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.
John was born July 13, 1927, on a farm near Morenci, the son of Clarence and Esther (Johnston) Pummell.
As a young man, he served with the Merchant Marines, then settled in the Pacific Northwest, where he began a career as an electrician.
Throughout his life, John had many interests including farming, photography, skiing, flying, hiking and parachuting. He was involved in wildlife conservation and enjoyed entertaining family and friends.
John is survived by two daughters, Shelley (and Brandon) Merrell and Karen Eckert (and Jeremy Radford), all of La Center, Wash.; six grandchildren; a sister, Doris Manley of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Clarence Pummell, Jr., of Ida, Mich., and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeff Pummell; a brother, Harold J. Pummell; and a sister, Phyllis E. (Merle) Thornton.
The family is planning a Celebration of Life at John’s home at a later date. A tree will be planted and a park bench will be placed beside his back yard pond as a memorial. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice or a wildlife conservation organization of the donor’s choice.
