Donna Arlene Gearig, 86, of Alvordton, Ohio, died Feb. 21, 2017, at Evergreen Manor in Montpelier, Ohio, where she has resided since 2013.
She was born Jan. 9, 1931, to the late Joseph Alfred and Mary Evelyn (Lemming) Eaton. Donna married Elgin Alvin Gearig on April 25, 1952, in Fulton County, and he preceded her in death Oct. 22, 2007.
Donna grew up in rural Fulton County and attended the former grade school in Winameg. She later took nursing classes in Toledo. She served her family as a loving homemaker, and she and Elgin taught Sunday school for numerous years in Delta, Ohio. She loved all animals and was especially fond of cats. Her greatest joy came from the bond she shared with her husband of 55 years, followed by her beloved grandchildren. Donna was a member of the Alvordton United Brethren Church.
She is survived by a son, Timothy (and Helen) Gearig of Bryan, Ohio; two daughters, Rose Watkins and Loretta Burkhart, both of Montpelier; eight grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 10 step-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by all of her siblings, Charles, Robert, Alan, Tyke, Edith, Jerry, and Marion; and a son-in-law, Dave Burkhart.
Funeral services were Feb. 23 at Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette, with Pastor Dan VanArsdalen officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette.
