Esther Evenson, 103, formerly of Fayette, Ohio, died July 29, 2008, at Fairlawn Haven in Archbold, Ohio.
She was born to Mark and Ella Sebring on a farm near Fayette, Ohio, on April 22, 1905. She attended Gorham Fayette High School.
She married Charley McLaughlin and they had two children. They spent their married life in Fayette where they ran a wallpaper store and hung wallpaper. Charley was killed in a truck accident in February 1943.
She worked in a dry goods store, frozen food locker and a restaurant, where she met and later married Carl Evenson, a Greyhound bus driver. They moved to Chicago for six years, until Carl retired, then returned to Fayette. Carl died in 1982.
Esther was a member of the Women’s Relief Corp and a 51-year member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed crocheting and other crafts and was an accomplished seamstress, making things for herself as well as sewing for friends and acquaintances.
Esther is survived by a daughter, V. Charlene (and Ralph) Snyder; a grandson, Dr. Charles (and Patricia) Snyder; great-grandsons, Derek (and Jill) Snyder and Darin (and Aniko) Snyder; and great-great-granddaughters, Amanda, Ella, Hayden and Lauren.
Besides her two husbands, Esther was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters, and a son, Allan.
Funeral services are scheduled at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette. Visitation is planned from 1 to 2:30 on Saturday at the funeral home and from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at Fairlawn Haven Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church (Disciples) in Fayette.
