After no comment was heard at a pair of public hearings Monday night, Morenci city council members approved Kamco Industry's application for a CDBG grant of $250,000 for job training and an application for a 12-year tax abatement at the company's new Morenci location.
Bryan Barshel, an assistant vice president of Kamco, told council that his company intends to be in operation in Morenci by the fall.
"We're excited to come to town," Barshel said. "We’re excited about the new facility. It fits us really well and is in a great location to our other facility."
A considerable amount of renovation is needed before production begins, he said, such as electrical and mechanical work, but the former Palm Plastics building is a great match for Kamco's production.
The company awaits the arrival of a new machine that's being manufactured in France, and when that arrives, some equipment from the main location in West Unity, Ohio, will begin to be transferred to Morenci.
When the plant is in full operation, 60 new jobs are expected to be filled.
