Several people have complained about the condition of Oak Grove Cemetery, including the roads that turn to mud in the spring and during extra wet weather.
Phelps calculated the amount of stone that would be needed to cover the cemetery roads two and a half inches deep and came up with a price tag of about $18,000. She has opened an account at the Morenci office of Old National Bank to collected donations for project.
"The people of the City of Morenci have pulled together on multiple things when there has a been a need," she said. "Out of love and respect for the generations of loved ones, there is a need to take care of the cemetery, to do our part for them and our community by taking care of their final resting place."
"So let's not sit around and complain about what needs to be done," Phelps said. "Let's pull together and improve our community."
