Angie Ely opens pet salon 2014.07.23

Angie Ely knew that a room in the house where she lives on Buffalo Street in Morenci once served as a beauty salon, so why not turn it into a dog grooming salon?

One day when she came home from work, she saw that her husband, Chuck, had installed a door to the room. He was ready for her to work at home and that marked the beginning of Wags and Wiggles Grooming Salon.

Angie learned grooming by watching videos and practicing on the pets of friends and family. That was good enough to land a job with Petco in Toledo, and once there she honed her skills through six years of working at the pet store.

Preparing the old hair salon was a simple enough project for Chuck since a drain and electrical outlets were already in place. A raised tub for bathing dogs makes it easy for Angie to use.

"The only downfall is that I never leave the house," she said.

She provides full grooming service from nail trims to washes and cutting.

"I groom dogs because I love them," Angie said. "You have to love them to have the patience to work with them."

And what about cats? She's done a few, but that's not her specialty.
