Morenci's fleet of eight school buses received a 100 percent rating during the recent state inspection, thanks to some extra effort by mechanic Kevin Wilson.
"He worked from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. to get bus no. 8 cleaned and welded," said Superintendent of Schools Mike McAran.
Bus 8 is the oldest one in the fleet and not used often, McAran said.
"Once we got it up on the hoist, we could see there was work to be done," said transportation coordinator Lori Wilson. "We were running around the shop looking for pieces of steel to use for fabricating."
The stair well and battery box needed rebuilding along with some other chores.
"He did well," Lori said. "I'm just thankful he has the ability to fabricate."
McAran was pleased with Wilson's extra effort to get the fleet ready for inspection and pass through inspection without a red flag.
