Morenci city council has all seats filled again when a Main Street business owner was appointed to fill a vacant term.
Pearl Phelps was chosen unanimously to fill the vacancy created when Robb Sweet resigned last month due to a job change. Phelps will serve until the November election and she could choose to seek a longer term by appearing on the ballot.
Mayor Bill Foster first nominated former mayor Doug Erskin to fill the vacant seat, but the motion died in a 3-3 tie.
In another appointment, council member Sean Seger and city administrator/clerk Michael Sessions were named to the Stair Public Library district library formation committee. They will be joined by two library board members and two representatives from both Seneca and Medina townships to begin work on the creation of a district library. The success of the effort would eventually be determined by voters when asked to support a millage to support the library district.
