Morenci's auto parts store has a new owner and the city now has an automotive repair shop.
Father and son Scott and Dereck Perryman purchased George's Auto Parts Feb. 6.
"I got talking to George about it one day," Scott said, and then he and Dereck started mulling the idea over in their minds.
George finally called the ask about their decision, Derick said, and the deal was made. Perryman's Auto opened for business Feb. 10.
Scott has been in farming all of his adult life and Dereck graduated from Morenci Area High School in 2008, so running a retail business is a new venture for them. Working on vehicles, however, is something they're familiar with.
Dereck studied diesel engine repair at Owens Community College and still does some diesel work now and then. He's looking forward to transforming the bay at the east end of the building for light mechanical work such as batteries, tires, alternators, starters, oil changes and running diagnostics codes.
"Whatever needs to be done, we'll take a look at it," Scott said.
Perryman's Auto is open from 9 to 5:30 weekdays and 9 to 1 on Saturdays. Sunday hours may be scheduled in the future, but none have been set yet.
