Sheriff accepting on-line reports 2014.02.05

The Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office is offering a new online reporting option for the public to file certain incident types (minor theft, vandalism, lost property, crime tips, etc.) over the internet at their convenience.

The service will allow the public to file a report at a time that is best for them without having to wait for an officer to respond or call them back. A copy of the report may be printed upon submission. The report will be reviewed by Sheriff’s Office personnel and, once approved, the filing person will receive an e-mail with a copy of the report attached at no cost. The report will transfer into the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office records management system and receive the same investigation and statistical analysis ability as if the report had been filed by a police officer.

Sheriff Jack Welsh stated this web-based reporting option will allow deputies more time to address community needs while keeping pace with the public expectancy to complete services via the internet.

Reports will be taken that occurred in Lenawee County except from communities with full-time police agencies.

The crime reporting service is available at, by clicking on “Departments” and then “Sheriff’s Office.” Detailed instructions are available by calling 517/263-0524, ext. 2144.
