Fayette school board 2013.08.21

Fayette Board of Education members made a few final staffing decisions Aug. 13 in preparation for the new school year.

The annual school open house is scheduled from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 22 and classes begin Aug. 26.

Spanish teacher Alysa Short received a continuing contract to work as a part-time teacher and Lisa Hintz’s contract was amended to make her a full-time teacher for the next year.

Hintz will add English as a second language to her sociology teaching schedule.

MENTOR—Barb Bruggeman and Sheila Killam were approved as the district’s mentors to work with other teachers. Bruggeman will serve as the mentor coordinator.

DETENTION—Board members approved a contract with the Wood County Juvenile Detention Center and Juvenile Residential Center of NW Ohio for $60 per day at the JDC and $50 long-term care daily rate at the JRC. The contract would go into effect if a Fayette student were to be lodged at either facility.

JUMP START—Board members accepted a Memorandum of Understanding outlining the Project Jump Start program at Northwest State Community College. The program enables high school students to earn college credit.

ADVISORS—Several class advisors were chosen for the 2013-14 year: Class of 2014, Sarah Altstaetter and Barb Bruggeman; Class of 2015, Sarah Weiland; Class of 2016, Carol Burkholder and Kami Downing; Instrumental, John Keys; Vocal Music, Jennifer Cobb; Yearbook, Ryan Colegrove; National Honor Society, Suzette Boesger; Quiz Team, Lisa Hintz; Language Club, Alysa Short; LPDC Chairperson, Suzette Boesger; Student Council (HS), Sarah Altsteatter; Prom Director, Sarah Weiland.

Three non-paid positions were also approved: Class of 2017, Lisa Hintz; Class of 2018, Andrea Jacobs and Rebecca Nelson; Student Council (ES), Carrie Ueberroth.

COACHES—Andy Richardson and Mat Johnson will serve as co-coaches for the eighth grade boys basketball team. Tyler Downing was approved as a volunteer cross country coach.

DRIVERS—Nine people were approved to serve as substitute bus drivers—Rodney Kessler, Dan Seiler, Megan Lerma, Steve Hartman, Chris Hylander, Stephanie Leininger, Rod Sommers, Michelle Pilbeam and Brian Fether.

FAIR—The board agreed to sponsor a booth at the Fulton County Fair to promote the district and the new Fayette Virtual Academy.

WAIVER—Students will be out of school on two state-approved waiver days: Oct. 18 and March 24.

CLOSED—The board met in a closed session for 40 minutes to discuss a legal issue.
