Fayette schools are holding steady in student numbers with enrollment remaining at the same level as a year ago. However, there are several changes among class numbers from last fall.
At the elementary school, last year's kindergarten class of 43 children shrunk to 37 this year as first graders. On the other hand, the fourth grade grew by three students.
At the high school, the sophomore class gained four members over the summer. Total school enrollment stands at 443, excluding preschool. Preschool numbers fell from 25 to 19.
This year's second grade class, at 23, is still the smallest, despite gaining one student since last year. The fifth grade and kindergarten classes are also in the 20s. The eighth grade class, at 53, is far above the average size for the district.
Lacy Stambaugh, who handles enrollment information for the district, reported that 28 Fayette school district students are attending schools in other communities through the open enrollment option and 20 students from other districts are enrolled at Fayette.
