The Military Family Relief Fund program, administered by the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs offers financial support to active duty Michigan military personnel and their families if they face a need for financial assistance during their time of active service.
The program provides a grant of up to $2,000 per year for qualifying service men and women or their families. The applicant must meet one of three requirements—suffered a loss in pay; incurred a significant increase in the necessities of daily living; or suffered a significant emergency that warrants financial assistance.
The need for financial assistance must have occurred during the time the qualified individual served on active duty or is a direct result of serving on active duty.
To qualify, individuals must have served at least 30 days of active duty and have proof of active duty service in the form of a copy of the orders issued by an authorized headquarters or documentation that the duty was performed.
If there is a documented need for financial assistance for necessities of daily living including food, clothing, housing, utilities, medical service, insurance payments or other needs, the applicant must fill out an application and submit proof that the qualified individual or family member has incurred a specific monetary expense related to the necessities.
