When the Morenci Board of Education hired a high school/middle school principal in late August, the position was classified as interim.
Stephen Philipp was chosen to take the job and now it’s time to fill the position without the word “interim” attached.
“We purposely said at the start that the job would be posted again,” said Dr. Michael Osborne, superintendent of schools.
“We owe it to the district to check out all candidates,” he explained. “We didn’t have that opportunity so close to the start of school.”
The district’s previous high school principal, Nate Parker, took a job in Adrian in mid-August and a replacement was needed by the start of school in September.
The action is not a reflection on Philipp’s performance, Osborne said, and he urges his to apply for the permanent position.
