The Living Library will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at Stair Public Library, but the library will not carry out regular business during that time. Computers will not be available and books and other materials will not be available for check out.
Instead, the community is invited to be a “Reader” and check out a different kind of Book, a Book titled with the name of a stereotype.
These Books are people, people who represent stereotypes, and they will be the only Books available for check out that day.
Readers will check out Books for half hour conversation sessions in areas set up around the library. Readers should be able to check out up to six Books during the three hours the Living Library is open. Readers can come in anytime after 10 a.m.; the last checkout is at 12:30 p.m.
Most Books are members of the community, including a few high school students, but a couple are from Adrian.
Reluctant or Shy Readers are encouraged to join with a friend or two and check out one Book together.
“Although the Living Library is a very cool concept, it’s also very bizarre,” said library director Colleen Leddy.
“I’m sure some people will be more comfortable checking out Books with a friend and that is perfectly fine.”
“It might even be more fun,” she added.
