Fayette village council members took a first step Thursday night toward preparing for the summer recreation season.
Councilors voted to accept the Parks and Recreation Board’s suggestion to hire Scott Wagner to serve as parks director again this season, at a salary of $5,000.
Wagner applied for the position, but didn’t make an immediate decision about whether he would accept the job. Wagner wanted to discuss the issue further with the park board.
Village Financial Officer Lisa Zuver told council that Wagner was overpaid by $1,000 last year and Mat Johnson, grounds maintenance supervisor, was overpaid by $500. Council member Jerry Gonzales insisted that the pay rate for this summer should be reduced to make up for the overpayment last year.
Gonzales suggested that Wagner should be paid $4,500 to get a portion of the overpayment back. Instead, council voted 3-2 to “reimburse compensation” for the overpayment in order to make it correct from an auditing standpoint. Gonzales and Ken Delphous opposed the motion.
Council hasn’t yet received a recommendation for concession stand director.
TREES—Village administrator Amy Metz submitted a proposal for an Urban Forestry grant through the U.S.D.A. to remove and replace 75 trees. Funding would come through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act stimulus plan.
Councilor Gonzales stated at the meeting that he would vote against accepting any federal money from the stimulus plan.
SEWAGE—Metz also added all phases of the village’s long-term control plan....
