Word came from UMCOR—the United Methodist Church Committee on Relief—Aug. 24. Five days later, Fayette church members had filled the request in a special effort to help families in the Findlay area suffering from flood damage.
An e-mail arrived from UMCOR describing the need for “flood buckets,” said Kris Keiser, who helped organize the project locally. The buckets contain a variety of cleaning supplies for families coping with the recent floods.
“UMCOR has flood buckets on hand at all times for disasters,” explained Keiser, but those are for shipping out where needed anywhere around the world. “These are going specifically to Findlay to avoid the need for transportation.”
Relief supplies are stored in a depot in Louisiana, but rather than ship materials up from the south, churches in northwest Ohio were contacted for assistance. UMCOR’s e-mail described an immediate need for 500 buckets.
Members of Fayette’s United Methodist Church came through with strong support.
“We ended up with 18 total and our goal was 20,” Keiser said, “so we did well.”
