Surely you can spare a few seconds Monday morning to for the 13th annual Silver Creek Bridge Walk.
Really, that’s all it takes, less than half a minute.
First come the speeches from local dignitaries, but even those are kept on the short side. Any visitor wishing to step to the microphone is given a minute to deliver their message.
Morenci Chamber of Commerce member Kyle Griffith has contacted the usual array of speakers, ranging from Doug Spade to Cameron Brown to Jim Berryman, but you never know who might show up.
“There’s always a surprise,” he said.
Morenci mayor Russ Sutherland will serve as master of ceremonies and he’ll give the marching orders to cross the bridge.
Morenci’s Legion color guard will lead the procession while sound man Les Robertson provides the appropriate music.
Walkers should meet on the south side of the pedestrian bridge new Morenci’s industrial park before the 11 a.m. start of the ceremonies. Those who drive to the event should park along Skyline Drive, the road leading into the park.
To prepare for the walk ahead of time, this year’s bridge walk T-shirts can be purchased in advance at Stair Public Library, Johnson’s Hardware and the United Bank and Trust. Shirts will also be available at the bridge.
