Morenci Elementary School’s Fun Night event this past Friday provided all the elements for a good time for all ages. But it wasn’t just a good time; it was just one more example of the citizens of the Morenci area pulling together for the benefit of others.
From the organizers to the participants, everyone plays a pivotal role in making this a successful event.
Parents, grandparents, and other community members donate their time, effort and energy to run the games, man the kitchen, staff the raffle and auction—all for the benefit of next year’s fifth grade students to attend camp.
Camp is not just a unique educational experience and bonding opportunity for the fifth graders, but a rite of passage, a Morenci tradition that spans several decades and generations.
In this era of declining school finances, it is especially important for the community to raise the funds that allow all fifth graders to attend camp. By the looks of it Friday, the community succeeded in doing that.
The Morenci PTO organizers should be widely congratulated for a job well done.
