The third of four steps are now complete in an effort to change Stair Public Library from a city library to a district library.
The three entities involved—the library, city council and the school board—have all agreed to support the proposal and now it’s up to the State Librarian to give final approval.
If that comes this month, as expected, the board of Stair Public Library has met for the final time. In the future it will be the new Stair District Library board of directors that will make decisions about the operation of the facility.
The group will also be charged with leading the public relations campaign to gain voter support for a millage to support the district concept. With shrinking support from the City of Morenci, the library’s key to survival must come from the broader demographic of school district residents to keep it strong.
