The Gorham Fayette Board of Education has a new president in place following the organizational meeting Monday night.

Veteran board member Paula Schaffner was nominated and unanimously elected to serve as president. David Brinegar was chosen as vice president.

Volunteer committee assignments are as follow:

• Legislative liaison, Karen King;

• Facilities representatives, Brinegar and Kirk Keiser;

• Four County representative, King;

• Calendar Committee representative, Deb Leininger;

• Financial/Audit representatives, Brinegar and Schaffner;

• Student Achievement liaison, Leininger;

• Board of Education Policy representatives, Schaffner and Keiser;

• Village of Fayette Restoration and Development representative, Keiser;

• Negotiations representatives, Brinegar and Schaffner.

The negotiations team will play a role this year, said superintendent Russ Griggs, with teacher contracts expiring at the end of July.

The board voted to continue to schedule regular meetings at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of the month in the high school resource room.

The school board service fund will remain at $3,000. This amount generally isn’t used, Griggs said, but with three new board members—Leininger, Kaiser and King—he expects more professional development courses than usual will be attended.
