Gone missing

It’s been a while since I’ve read anything about the missing millions of dollars in U.S. aid to Iraq. I recall the stories about pallets of cash sitting in storage. Actually, the latest report is that $8.6 billion of the $9 billion is unaccounted for. Nobody knows. If you look at it as $28 for every person in the U.S., it seems like a reasonable investment, right? Not a lot of rebuilding was done, perhaps:

The US military said the funds were not necessarily missing, but that spending records might have been archived.

The story also reports that this $9 billion is separate from the $53 billion allocated by Congress. I’m not sure what that says about the initial nine, but my investment is growing. And the entire war effort was never budgeted.
