Merle Mansfield Speiser, 90, of Morenci, Mich., died June 28, 2017, at her home.
She was born Dec. 1, 1926, in Iron River, Mich., to John and Luella (Battye) Applin. She was married to Nored Mansfield, Wayne Mansfield and Paul Speiser who all preceded her in death.
Merle spent most of her working years doing office work, employed at both JCPenney and the former Porter Lumber Company. In her later years she enjoyed spending time at the Morenci Senior Center and the Gospel Barn in Hillsdale. Merle faithfully attended Medina Federated Church and loved spending Friday evenings with her church family as part of the “Empty Nesters” group.
Merle is survived by a daughter, Maureen (and Thomas) Smith of Morenci; stepchildren Connie Speiser of Hartford, Wis.; Rae (and Roxanne) Speiser of Watertown, S.D.; and Paul (and Sharon) Speiser of Hartford; a sister, Emilie Gagnea; a brother-in-law, Herbert (and Evelyn) Mansfield; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Merle was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lou Keller; a son, Nored Mansfield, Jr.; brothers, George Applin and Marvin Applin; sisters, Charlotte Allen, Corrine Boutell and Marian Carlson; and a sister-in-law, Eva Marie Boydston.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, at Medina Federated Church, with Pastor Darren Lemmon officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Eagle Funeral Home in Morenci.
