Phyllis Jane Eagle, 81, of Manitou Beach, Mich., died June 22, 2017, at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian, Mich., where she resided since the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
Phyllis was born April 12, 1936, in Hudson, Mich., a twin daughter of the late Ellsworth J. and Alma G. (Cramer) Scovill. A lifelong resident of the Hudson area, she graduated from Hudson High School and was a faithful member of the Hudson First Congregational Church. She married Joe Owen Eagle on Oct. 9, 1955, in Hudson, and he preceded her in death July 19, 2002.
Phyllis and Joe owned and operated Eagle Funeral Homes, Inc., from 1955 until Joe’s retirement in 1999. Phyllis was very involved in her community and served on several organizational boards in Hudson. Her civic involvements included the Hudson American Legion Auxiliary, Hudson Dance Club, Hudson Women’s Club, Friday Club, Hudson Bridge Club and Devils Lake Yacht Club, and she served as a Girl Scout leader for several years.
Her leisure activities consisted of camping, golfing and spending time with her friends. Phyllis was known as a doting mother and grandmother whose legacy will carry forward in the hearts of her loving family.
She is survived by four daughters, Terri (and Jim) Moran of Jackson, Mich., Susan (and Mark) Johnson of Marine City, Mich., Jill (and John) Barrett of Jonesville, Mich., and Jana (and Mark) Monahan of Hudson; her twin brother, Richard (and Marilyn) Scovill of Fennville, Mich.; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer (and Matt) Barsegian, Marc (and Nicole) Overbeek, Ryan (and Sarah) Malarney, Zachary Malarney and Sarah Eggen, Logan Johnson, Halie Johnson, Emily (and Terry) Osborne, Abbie (and John) Taipalus, Brian (and Sydney) Barrett, David (and Denise) Monahan, Alyson Monahan, Johnathan Monahan and Ashley Monahan; and 10 great-grandchildren, Aislyn, Tristan, George, William, Barrett, Blake, Brady, Brogan, Brynley and Joelle.
In addition to her parents and husband, Phyllis was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy, Patricia Ann Eagle, and a granddaughter in infancy, Sally Marie Monahan.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Monday, June 26, at Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson with Dr. Rev. Thomas Burke, Jr., officiating. Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the family plot in Waldron Cemetery.
