Doris J. Allen, 89, of Adrian, Mich., and formerly of Morenci, Mich., died June 6, 2017, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian.

She was born June 30, 1927, in Fayette, Ohio, a daughter of the late Dale and Dessa (Liby) Hale. She married Robert Allen on Aug. 14, 1948, and he preceded her in death Sept. 23, 1997.

Doris graduated from Gorham-Fayette High School and later Elkhart Business School. She was a member of the Morenci First Congregational Church and the Fairfield Order of Eastern Star.

As a dedicated farm wife, Doris enjoyed preparing meals and baking for the family and farmers in the field. She would feed the calves and keep up with chores, all while taking care of the daily domestic demands of the household. Doris participated in church bazaars and Ladies Aid Suppers. She loved music and enjoyed playing the piano. She possessed the talent to play by ear most of the time. Other hobbies included being an avid sewer and golfing with her husband for many years.

Doris is survived by two daughters, Linda (and Terry) Marlatt of Adrian and Nancy (and Stanley) Wilson of Britton, Mich.; a son, Leslie Allen of Morenci; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Doris was preceded in death by all of her siblings, Dorene Pickles, Durlene Rice, Donelda Metcalf and Robert Hale.

A memorial service is planned at 2 p.m. Monday, June 12, at the Morenci First Congregational Church, with Pastor Greg Morrison officiating. Interment will take place in the Porter (Packard) Cemetery in Seneca Township. Visitation is scheduled one hour preceding the service at the church, beginning at 1 p.m.

Arrangements are being handled by the Eagle Funeral Home in Morenci.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Morenci First Congregational Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
