Christopher Joel Eichler, 32, of Morenci, Mich., died Feb. 19, 2017, in Hudson Township, the result of an automobile accident.
Chris was born April 15, 1984, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Jeff Smith and Shelly Eichler.
He had attended Waldron Area Schools and was self-employed as a local handyman and painter. Chris is remembered as an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and motorsports. His greatest fulfillment came from the bond he shared with his son, who will sorely miss him.
Chris is survived by his mother, Shelly (and Robert) French of Hudson, Mich.; his son, Dixon Derr at home; sister, Lindsey Eichler of Hudson; three brothers, Jared (and Cherise) Smith of Home, Pa., Judd and (Brandy) Smith of Morenci, and Corey Smith of Toledo; a step-sister, Melissa French of Coldwater, Mich.; two step-brothers, Michael (and Desiree) French of Camden, Mich., and Robert French of Hudson; maternal grandmother, Marilyn Eichler of Morenci; aunt, Dianna Eichler; cousin, Brittney Heilman; and several additional aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jeff Smith; a brother, Jason Lynn Eichler; and a grandfather, Robert Eichler.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service is planned at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at Medina Federated Church, with Pastor Darren Lemmon officiating. A time of sharing will immediately follow in the fellowship hall. Interment will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci at a later date. Arrangements were handled by Eagle Funeral Home in Morenci.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate monetary donations given to aid with final expenses for Christopher.
