Verlaine Morse, 85, of Hudson, Mich., died Jan. 19, 2017, at MagnumCare of Adrian, Mich.
She was born June 13, 1931, in Sand Creek, Mich., to the late Wilbur and Marion (Knox) Sanford. She married Gerald K. Morse in June 1955, in Adrian. He preceded her in death in 2006.
Verlaine grew up in the Sand Creek area and graduated from the former high school in Lyons, Ohio, in 1948. She later obtained a teaching certificate and was an elementary school teacher for the former Chesterfield school district in rural Fulton County.
Verlaine was a pet lover, an avid reader, and she enjoyed flowers, especially her spring peonies and lilacs. She also volunteered for various local community organizations and often served as a patient driver for the Kidney Dialysis Center.
Verlaine is survived by six children, Terese Morse of Fort Collins, Col., Tracy (and Julie) Morse of Hudson, Trent Morse of Waldron, Mich., Tara Morse of Fort Collins, Col., Tina (and Terry) Olsen of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Telaina (and Andrew) Eriksen of East Lansing, Mich.; a sister, Charlene (and Lawrence) Church of Tecumseh, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonya Morse; and her three brothers, James, Millard “Syd,” and William Sanford.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson, with Deacon John Amthor officiating. Burial will follow in Sand Creek Cemetery in Madison Township. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
