Larry R. Shay, 72, of rural Fayette, Ohio, died Dec. 18, 2016, at CHP Inpatient Hospice near Defiance, Ohio, as the result of cancer.
Born Oct.16, 1944, in Hudson, Mich., Larry was the only son of the late LeRoy and Alvina (Dunlap) Shay. He married Judith Ann Ely on Feb. 29, 1964, in Clayton, Mich., and she survives.
Larry was a long-time employee of TRW (formerly Dayton-Walther) in Fayette. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling and camping. Larry and Judy were seasonal campers at Sunny’s Campground near Wauseon, Ohio, for many years.
In addition to his wife of 52 years, Larry is survived by three sons, Larry Shay of Toledo, Robert Shay of Fayette, and Tracey Shay of Fayette; a daughter, Sherrie (and Ronald) Buehrer of Wauseon; a sister, Donna Suydan of Clayton, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Kyle, Adam, Chandler, Dakota, Caleb, Ashley, Amber and Ronald, Jr.; and seven great-grandchildren, Oaklie, Beckette, Braelyn, Lexus, Addison, Cooper and Trystan.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley Hall.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at Eagle Funeral Home in Morenci, with Rev. Bill VanValkenburg officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
