Mary Madeline Herr, 76, of Camburn Hwy., Morenci, Mich., died Aug. 2, 2014, at the University of Toledo Medical Center.
Mary was born March 24, 1938, in Lenawee County, Mich., to the late Floyd and Lillian (Weber) McVay. She married John C. Herr on June 14, 1969, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Fayette, and he survives.
Mary was a 1956 graduate of Morenci High School, and later obtained a registered nurse degree from Mercy College in Toledo. She worked as a nurse for a few years, but primarily worked in the home raising her family. Mary was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, where she served on the Altar Rosary Society, and volunteered with the St. Vincent DePaul Society. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by two sons, Brent Herr of Washington and Gary Herr of Toledo, Ohio; three daughters, Mary (and Eric) Hofbeck of Lynnwood, Wash., Janell (and Marco) Corallo of Salem, Ohio, and Jolene (and Allen) Stafford of Edon, Ohio; six brothers, Floyd (and Mary Lou) McVay, David (and Mary Helen) McVay, Alan McVay, Greg (and Jodi) McVay, Doug McVay, and Mark McVay; two sisters, Annette McVay and Cynthia (and Andy) McVay; and nine grandchildren, Jacob, Samuel, Ian, Alise, Andrea, Lillian, Jude, Adam and Amelia.
Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Francis McVay, and a daughter-in-law, JoAnne Herr.
A Mass of Christian Burial is planned at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, with Father Stephen Stanberry as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Assumption, Ohio. Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with a vigil prayer service at 7:45 p.m., at Eagle Funeral Home-Barrett Chapel in Fayette.
Memorial donations are suggested to Our Lady of Mercy Church for Mass intentions or the St. Vincent DePaul Store in Fayette.
