David Lyle Schaffner, 64, of rural Morenci, Mich., died July 20, 2014, at his home following a long illness, under the care of hospice and his family.
David was born Nov. 9, 1949, in Morenci, the youngest of seven children, to Lyle and Madeline (Glaser) Schaffner.
He was a graduate of Morenci Area High School and had been employed at Airco Welding Supply and the Michigan State Road Commission in Adrian.
David served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict. His hobbies included painting and reconstructing cars.
David is survived by his three children who helped care for him, Kyle (and Melisa) Schaffner of Merry Lake, Mich., Natasha (and Alan) Duby of Tecumseh, Mich., and Kristol (and Mark) Thomas of Clayton, Mich.; and three grandchildren, Jacob and Blake Schaffner and Teighlor Duby; four sisters, Laura Dirrim, Mara Dell Miller, Wilma McCarty and Linda Perringer; and one brother, Charles Schaffner
He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Barron.
According to his wishes, there will be no services. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of Lenawee County.
