John D. Long, Sr., 77, of Morenci, Mich., died July 16, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee, Ohio.
He was born Sept. 4, 1936, in Gladwin, W. Va., to the late Benson and Margie (Carr) Long. He married Judy Metcalf on May 2, 1959, and she survives.
John served in the United States Army and retired after 20 years of service. He also worked as a custodian for Sand Creek Schools for more than 21 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Morenci American Legion.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by two sons, John (and Ellen) Long, Jr., of Sand Creek, Mich., and Dale (and Kristy) Long of Morenci; two daughters, Mary Long of Morenci, and Lisa (and John) Correa of Sand Creek; two sisters, Gladys Wells of Fairfield, Mich., and Charlotte Arnold of Valdesto, Ga.; two brothers, David (and Judy) Long of Adrian, Mich., and Garey (and Renee) Long of Mose Monee, Wis.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Sturmer; two sisters, Leila Bapp and Dorothy Whigington; and two brothers, Jeral and Richard Long.
Funeral services are planned at 1 p.m. Monday, July 21, at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, with Rev. Lloyd Jewett officiating. Military interment will follow in Lyons Cemetery in Lyons, Ohio. Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
