June Rice, 92, of Morenci, Mich., died Oct. 11, 2013, at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian, Mich.
She was born June 9, 1921, in Hillsdale, Mich., the daughter of Earl and Olive Phillips. On Jan. 9, 1943, in Columbus, Ohio, she married Paul Walton. He preceded her in death June 23, 1978. On Sept. 23, 1981, in Morenci, she married Hal Rice. He preceded her in death March 27, 2007.
June was a member of the Morenci United Methodist Church, accepting Christ as her savior at the age of 12 in Bankers, Mich. She was a choir member in Hillsdale, Mich. June was also a member of the Morenci Grange #280.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Walton of Morenci and George and (Judy)Walton of Adrian; four grandchildren, Kevin (and Barb) Walton, Barry (and Stefania) Walton, Marissa (and Aaron) Baus and Kimberly (and Dustin) Short; six great-grandchildren; one step-daughter, Bonnie (and Sonny) Snyder of Adrian; one step-son, Jimmie (and Kathy) Rice of Tecumseh; four step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Hughes of Morenci; and one brother, Harry Phillips of Waldron.
In addition to her husbands, June was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Ruth Ann Sturt; a step-granddaughter, Shannon; two sisters, one in infancy and Helen Penoyar; and a brother, Kenneth Phillips.
A celebration of her life is planned at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the Morenci United Methodist Church, with Rev. Donna Galloway officiating. A private burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Jefferson Township near Hillsdale. Visitation is planned from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
