James J. "Junior" Cox, 92, of Pittsford, Mich., died Sept. 16, 2013, at Hillsdale County Medical Care Facility in Hillsdale, Mich.
He was born on April 20, 1921, in Jefferson Twp., Mich., the son of James L. and Katie (Sharp) Cox. He married Janice Emens on Oct. 14, 1944, and she preceded him in death June 23, 1972. He married Kathleen (Holmes) Edwards Skomp on June 7, 1975, in Ypsilanti, Mich., and she preceded him in death June 26, 2003.
Jim was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Wesleyan Church. He was a retired bus driver and custodian for Pittsford Area Schools. Jim served as the president of the township cemetery board for many years and sang with the Wright Township Men's Chorus in his younger years. Jim will be remembered as a loving father and grandpa to all his family, and a good friend and neighbor to many others.
Jim is survived by three daughters, Kathryn B. Cox of Pittsford, Barbara (and Jeffery) Ort of Morenci, Mich., and Carol (and Daniel) Waterstraut of Pittsford, Mich.; two step-daughters, Carolyn Hatcher of South Lyons, Mich., and Virginia Chavez of Ypsilanti, Mich.; one step-son, Ivan L. (and Dorothy) Skomp of New York; one sister, Lila Hearl of Howell, Mich.; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren, step-great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; one sister, Irene; and two step-grandchildren.
Funeral services are planned at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Hudson Wesleyan Church, with Rev. Wesley Rowan officiating. Interment will follow in Leonardson Cemetery in Pittsford. Visitation is scheduled from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hudson Wesleyan Church, Freedom Farm radio station and Hospice of Hillsdale County.
