Cliva Lenora Smith, 93, of Perrysburg, Ohio, and formerly of Lyons, Ohio, died, Sept. 8, 2013 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg.
She was born July 23, 1920, in Chesterfield Township to Vern G. and Florence I. (Partridge) Pennington. On Sept. 3, 1950, she married Harold E. Smith. He preceded her in death in December 1987.
Cliva worked as a beauty operator, business owner, retail worker, homemaker, volunteer, and family “boss.” She was a member of Ladies Shrine #10. Although Cliva never had any children of her own, she always had kids around and they called her Auntie. Cliva was known to be strong-willed, independent and in control until the end.
Cliva is survived by her sister, Leah Belle Coller; nieces, Lenora (and Kenneth) Geiger-Fairbanks and Betty Hinkle; nephews, Frederick (and Susanne) Hinkle and Vernon (and Diane) Hinkle; step-grandchildren, Debbie (and George) Christianson, Lisa Smith, and Mike (and Pam) Smith; step-nieces and nephews, Ken Fairbanks, Jr., Cindy Weaver, Steve Fairbanks, Mike (and JoAnna) Fairbanks, Randy (and Laura) Fairbanks and Jenny Fairbanks, and numerous great-great nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Cliva was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Beulah Hinkle; a step-son, Robert Smith, and nephew, Robert Hinkle.
Graveside services are planned at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 at Lyons Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Jerry Jones officiating.
