Michael L. Gillen, 47, of Morenci, Mich., died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Lenawee at the Hospice of Lenawee home.
Michael was born Jan. 11, 1966, at Morenci Area Hospital to Jane (Keefer) and John C. Gillen. He graduated from Morenci Area High School in 1984 and earned a bachelor of arts degree from Spring Arbor College.
Michael worked at the Adrian Training School and later at the Hillsdale Department of Human Services.
On May 28, 1988, he married Karen Phillips in Morenci and she survives. The Gillens recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.
Michael was described as a spirit filled, God loving man who shared his love for the Lord as a counselor at Christian Mission. He was a member of Abundant Life Assembly in Brooklyn, Mich.
In addition to his wife, Michael is survived by his parents; three children, Micah, Mariah and Adam, all of Morenci; a brother John (and Audrey) of Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Judy.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at Bethany Assembly of God, Adrian, with Pastor Steve Samonek officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Morenci. Visitation is scheduled from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian, and also from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church before the service.
