John “Red” W. Elkins, 83, of Hudson, Mich., died Aug. 2, 2013, at his home.
He was born Sept. 20, 1929, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Vauston and Tessie (Jackson) Elkins. He married Bonnie J. Wilson on Dec. 31, 1966, in Hudson, and she survives.
John graduated from Hudson High School in 1948. He retired from Fayette Tubular Corporation in 1997, with more than 30 years of service. His hobbies were fishing, racing and race cars.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by one son, John K. (and Deb) Elkins of Osseo, Mich.; one daughter, Jackie Paige of Big Rapids, Mich.; one sister, Patsy Elkins of Hudson; one brother, Thomas Elkins of California; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson, with Pastor Kathy Currier officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 4-6 p.m. Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hudson EMS or Great Lakes Hospice.
