Roy Thomas, 93, of Morenci, Mich., died July 2, 2013, at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian, Mich.
He was born on March 30, 1920, in Seneca Township, Mich., the son of Roscoe and Inez (Merritt) Thomas. On Dec. 31, 1944, in Morenci, he married Alberta Staelens. She preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 2001.
Roy was a lifetime farmer, living all of his life in Seneca Township. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and baseball, and for a time owned and flew his own airplane. He was a member of the Morenci Grange and the Morenci Sportsman's Club.
He is survived by two daughters, Inez Thomas of Morenci and Donna (and Frank) Riley of Blissfield, Mich.; after his brother's passing his adopted daughter, Connie (and Steve) Swander of Grayling, Mich.; three grandchildren, Darryl Johnston, Derek Baugh and Rene (and Darrin Jackson) Baugh; three great-grandsons, Justin, Donnie and Corey; and a great-great-granddaughter, Mykenzie.
Besides his wife, Roy was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Ada Hough, Minnie Wolf, Edna Smith and Irene Powers; and two brothers, Elmer and Roscoe "Cleave" Thomas.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m Saturday, July 6, at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, with Fr. Dave Hudgins and Rev. Darren Lemmon officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. Visitation is scheduled from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday.
