Dora Lynn Monroe, 39, of Sterling Heights, Mich., and formerly of Lenawee County, died April 19, 2013, at Henry Ford Hospital Macomb, surrounded by her family.
She was born Aug. 2, 1973, in Adrian, Mich., the daughter of Daniel and Deborah (Moden) Herman. On Jan. 28, 2008, she married David Monroe and he survives.
Dora was a 1991 graduate of Onsted High School. She served on the Tecumseh and Hudson fire departments. and also worked as a paramedic for Lenawee Community Ambulance (LCA) She volunteered as paramedic at the the 3 Bar B Rodeo and was employed as a medical assistant at doctors’ offices.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Thomas Michael Smith and Catherine Elizabeth Smith; a granddaughter, Angel Marie Ladd; her father, Daniel (and Flower) Herman; her mother, Deborah Howard; a brother, Dennis (and Joy) Herman; two stepsisters, Tina Marie Brighton and Stacy Lynn Lazarus; a stepbrother, Edmond Lee Rood; two brothers-in-law, Tyler Monroe and Anthony Monroe; a sister-in-law, Debbie Monroe; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Daniel Herman; a stepsister, SunSurray Rood; her grandparents, Richard and Clarice Moden and Othmar and Edith Herman; and her mother-in-law, Toni Monroe.
Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday, April 26, at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Adrian. Visitation is scheduled from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to Dora’s family.
