Winona L. Ferris, 92, of rural Morenci, Mich., died March 26, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born April 29, 1920, in Fairfield Township, Mich., to the late Orde and Ilah (Omstead) Riley. She married Lloyd R. Ferris on Sept. 20, 1938, in Adrian, Mich., and he preceded her in death on May 3, 1976.
Winona graduated from Morenci High School in 1938 and lived her entire life in the Morenci area. She was employed with Morenci Rubber Products for 28 years, retiring in April 1987. Winona dearly loved her family, and everyone was always welcome into her home. She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens and watching hummingbirds.
Surviving are a son, Richard Ferris, of Morenci; a daughter, Joann (and Albert) Schmidt of Morenci; three grandchildren, Marvin (and Sandy) Schmidt of Camden, Mich., Cindy (and Burt) Fellows of Waldron, Mich., and Connie (and John) Byard of Morenci; five great grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Winifred “Winkie” Barnes.
A celebration of her life is planned at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, with Rev. Bill VanValkenburg officiating. Visitation will precede the service, starting at 3 p.m.
In accordance with Winona's wishes, cremation has taken place and interment of her remains will be scheduled later at East Lime Creek Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
