Gladys M. Bailey, 85, of Fayette, Ohio, died Jan. 21, 2013, at Heartland of Wauseon.
She was born Sept. 8, 1927, in West Unity, Ohio, to the late Leonard and Suzie (Keiser) Siegel. Gladys married George LaVern Bailey on Aug. 15, 1948, in Fayette, and he preceded her in death on April 24, 2002.
Gladys grew up in the West Unity area and was a graduate of Alvordton School. She worked more than 20 years at Peter Stamping in Fayette. Gladys was a devoted member of the Fayette Firebelles and formerly attended the Fayette Christian Church-Disciples. She is remembered for her love and skill of gardening—especially tending her sweet corn and flowerbeds—and she also enjoyed playing shuffleboard during trips to Florida.
Gladys is survived by two sons, Jerry (and Kay) Bailey of Waldron, Mich., and Allen Bailey (and Debbie Wilenius) of Hudson, Mich.; a brother, Lloyd Siegel of West Unity; a sister, Doris Snow of Bryan, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Janice (and Doug) Siegel of West Unity; eight grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Larry and Gary Bailey; and two siblings, Harold and Betty.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Eagle Funeral Home-Barrett Chapel in Fayette, with Rev. Gene Sugg officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette. Visitation is scheduled from 2-8 p.m. Monday.
